Pedestrian Safety Advocacy
Be Visible. Be Safe.
I was hit by a SUV as a pedestrian, hit-and-run. Miraculously, I live. And after many surgeries, physical and PTSD therapy, and cognitive therapy for a TBI, I've had a blessed recovery. Many unexpected blessings come out of experiences you'd never pick for yourself, and this is one of mine: my advocacy for pedestrian safety.
The Mission
Every day, pedestrians are injured or killed in preventable accidents. My mission is to raise awareness about pedestrian safety and to empower people to be seen — to be visible — so they can be safe. Whether you're walking to work, jogging at dawn, or crossing the street at night, visibility can save your life.
Safety Tips
- —
Wear bright, reflective clothing when walking near traffic, especially at dawn, dusk, or night.
- —
Make eye contact with drivers before crossing the street — never assume they see you.
- —
Stay off your phone when crossing intersections. Distraction is dangerous.
- —
Use crosswalks and obey pedestrian signals. Cross at corners whenever possible.
- —
Carry a small flashlight or wear a light-up accessory when walking at night.
